Artist in residence

The School of Mathematics is delighted to be hosting sculptor Dominic Hopkinson as our Artist in Residence.

Dominic will be undertaking a residency in the School of Mathematics from April 2017 to June 2018, fully funded by Arts Council England.

Dominic’s work draws from ideas within mathematics, physics and molecular biology, attempting to “distil these complex concepts into pure visual form.” A current project explores Penrose tiling and aperiodic systems.

In a new video, Dominic talks about his background, how his work came to be influenced by mathematics and science, and his current projects. He also describes his work with the School of Mathematics and how it has resulted in some surprising conclusions, both for himself and the mathematicians he’s working with.
