BSc Mathematics

Why did you choose the University of Leeds?

I choose the University because of its reputation. At the time, I applied to study Accounting and Finance as Leeds has one of the best accounting programmes in the country. Also the campus is so beautiful and it's easy to get around.

Why did you choose to study Mathematics?

I changed from accounting to maths because I didn't like my old course. I wanted to stay in Leeds and maths offers so many opportunities for my future.

What do you like most about your course?

I love the variety of my course, so I'm studying maths but I still get to dabble in music, finance and logic, as there are discovery modules available. The teaching on my course is such a high standard too.

What skills have you gained from your course so far?

I'm able to write better essays (yes, even in maths!) and write better mathematical arguments which has also changed the way i think about problems.

Can you describe what student life at Leeds is like?

So there are lots of contact hours on my course, which is great as I feel I'm getting a lot for my money! There is always something going on at Leeds whether it's a student night out or a society event, I always find something to do.

What were you most worried about before arriving at university?

I was worried about being away from my family and knowing how to cook for myself. I was worried I wouldn't like my course, which I originally didn't, but there was so much help available that is was all fine.

What do you like most about being a student so far?

It would definitely be becoming a committee member for OperaSoc and being a lead in their show. I love that here you will always find someone with the same interests as you.

Is there anything which particularly surprised you about being a student?

How expensive food and laundry are! And how it's still like a full school day but it's not impossible to get up for 9am!

What do you like the least about being a student?

My accommodation flooded on the morning of one my exams which was not ideal! Luckily it was just a one off!

What do you plan to do at the end of your course?

I'm considering a career possibly going into accounting and finance or maybe doing a law conversion course.

What do you do outside of your studies?

I'm a member of OperaSoc and I'm also a student ambassador for the School, so help out with events such as Open Days or Visit Days for example. I used to have a part time job in Staples but it was quite hard to balance it alongside uni.

Any other comments you would like to make?

Being a student at Leeds has so far been the best best years of my life!
