Ranked in the UK top ten for research power.

The quality of the School’s research was recognised in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) where 95% of the work submitted was classed as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally recognised’, placing it in the top ten mathematics departments in the UK

The School is comprised of four sections, Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics, each with an enviable reputation for research. Together they form one of the largest research schools of mathematicians in the UK, with around 64 academic staff, 17 postdoctoral fellows and 56 postgraduate research students.

Our research is wide-ranging and increasingly interdisciplinary with academic staff actively collaborating with other departments, other universities, and with industry and public services in this country and all around the world. Serguei Komissarov

Professor in Applied Mathematics

Serguei Komissarov
" I am trying to understand complex astrophysical phenomena involving powerful flows propagating with almost the speed of light. Examples include jets from black holes of Active Galactic Nuclei, winds from Neutron Stars, and Gamma Ray Bursts. Physical theory of these phenomena and their computer simulations are my main research areas. "

Research Visitors' Centre

The Research Visitors' Centre (RVC) has been designed specifically for use by research visitors during their stay at Leeds. It provides office accommodation, computer facilities and access to a range of services.

To find out more about the RVC and our visitor programme please contact Prof. Carmen Molina-Paris, Director of Research or Jessica Brennan, the RVC Coordinator.
