Research interests

Modern technology has led to a vast increase in data with a geometric component. My own research focuses on the interplay between geometry and statistics. Spatial and spatial-temporal models deal with dependence through space and time. Directional data analysis is concerned with random directions on circles and spheres and in more complicated settings. Shape analysis is concerned with the information in an object in two or three dimensions, ignoring effects due to location, orientation and sometimes size. There is a wide range of applications including geology (orientation of rocks), morphometrics (shapes of living organisms), image analysis (identifying objects in images), climate modelling (stochastic models), and molecular biology (e.g. protein structure).
