Research interests
I am interested in studying algebraic objects which have an analytic flavour-- often infinite dimensional algebras which carry some form of topology. For example, given a locally compact group, we always have an invariant Haar measure, and this allows us to build the standard L^1 convolution algebra, or the Fourier algebra. It has long been recognised that these algebras are "dual" to one another-- the framework of operator algebraic quantum groups allows us to make this precise. I am interested in Banach algebraic style questions in the abstract harmonic analysis; recent work has concentrated upon looking at algebras which arise in the study of operator algebraic approaches to quantum groups. I am also interested in more classical problems in Banach algebras (specifically, dual Banach algebras, and various cohomological properties); I also have interests in Banach spaces.
