FASTFACT:
Until the middle of the 20th century number theory was considered to be pure mathematics and without applications. Now it is the basis of secret codes and internet security. Without it you couldn't use a credit card safely online.

Welcome to the School of Mathematics
We are one of the largest and most prestigious mathematics departments in the UK, with an international reputation for our teaching and research excellence.
We cover the areas of applied and pure mathematics, as well as statistics and financial mathematics where we have close teaching and research links with Leeds University Business School.
We have 74 academic and academic-related staff, in excess of 70 postgraduate students and 17 postdoctoral fellows.
