University of Vienna

The University of Vienna, founded in 1365 is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and is located right at the heart of continental Europe. It is also one of the largest universities in Europe and host to a large student population. Foreign students not only get a chance to practise their German but also immerse themselves in the culture and heritage which can be found throughout the city and the region. Vienna is home to a philharmonic orchestra and opera house and has a plethora of art galleries to explore. Winter sports are everywhere and so you can try out your hand at skiing or ice-skating, followed by a mulled wine at the Christmas markets.

University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo is situated in the heart of the town of Waterloo. UW has long been recognized as the most innovative University in Canada. They are the national leader in the transfer of ideas and technology to the private sector. More Canadian high-tech and knowledge-based spin-off companies trace their roots to the University of Waterloo than to any other school.

University of Western Ontario

The University of Western Ontario, or “Western” as it is referred to, was founded in 1878 and is one of Canada’s oldest and best universities. Research is an integral part of its mission and external support for research projects totals nearly $140 million CAD per year. The University supports approximately 30,000 students and its campus is located on 155 hectares of land along the banks of the Thames River.

University of Copenhagen

The University of Copenhagen is roughly the same size as the University of Leeds but is by far the largest higher education institute nationally in Denmark. International students in Denmark will be amazed by the Danes’ ability to speak English and the amount of English film and television programmes available. They will find Copenhagen itself to be a very relaxed city with a strong cafe culture. There is much to see and do from a boat ride around the harbour to the fairground attraction of Tivoli.



We have exchange programmes with two universities in Paris Université de Paris VII and the Université de Paris-Sud, both of which have a strong reputation and are very well-established. The home of the Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge and the Mona Lisa, Paris itself certainly has a lot to offer its international students. A year spent here will fly by as you explore the city and all that it is famous for.


University of Toulouse

The University of Toulouse is a consortium of 16 higher education establishments, all based in Toulouse. The University can trace its history back to 1229 and as such claims to be one of the oldest universities in Europe. When you choose to study for a year in Toulouse, not only will you have access to some of the best teaching in France but you will also have a great opportunity to improve your French, experience the skiing culture of the Pyrenees and explore this special region of France.

The University of Bonn was founded almost 200 years ago and is considered to be one of Germany's and indeed Europe's most important institutes of higher education. As home of learning to over 27,000 students, they enjoy an outstanding reputation both at home and abroad. 250-300 incoming ERASMUS students


University of Heidelberg

Founded in 1386, Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university and one of the most research-intensive higher-education institutions in Europe.
Some 20 percent of the undergraduates at Heidelberg University and about one-third of its doctoral students come from other countries.


University of Saarland

The University of Saarland is a campus based university with a great atmosphere and plenty for students to get involved with. It is situated in Saarbruecken on the German French border which means that you get to experience the best of both cultures. This city was once an important heart of Germany and as such there is plenty to see and do during your time here including visiting the Palace, the Homburg Caves, the art galleries and much more. The city is set in a stunning area of natural beauty which is loved by walkers and bikers alike.


University of Iceland (Reykjavik)

If you are wanting quite a different experience you might want to consider Iceland. The University of Iceland is one hundred years old and is situated in the heart of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. If you are a fan of the great outdoors then Iceland has plenty to offer from its glaciers to its geothermal spas. Reykjavik itself has a great nightlife with over 100 bars and clubs, just make sure you don’t go out too early as the Icelanders like to start late.

University of Lisbon

Established in 1911 the University of Lisbon is now a world-class university with a leading reputation. It is set in the heart of one of the oldest cities in the world, Lisbon. The city boasts a World Heritage site with its landmark Tower of Belem and generally you will find history around every corner. It is also crammed full of cafes and art nouveau shops, awaiting exploration. Churches, palaces, oceanarium, museums, trams, Lisbon really does have it all.

Complutense University of Madrid

The Complutense University of Madrid is the largest in Spain and has a student body which is three times that of Leeds. It has produced some of the finest Spanish politicians, thinkers and scientists. It is located in a district of Madrid, which itself is renowned for its relaxed lifestyle, café culture and vibrant nightlife. Food and drink play an important role in the culture of this city, together with music, theatre and live flamenco dancing.

University of Lund

Lund University is one of the top ten choices in Europe for student exchange and 1st in Sweden. It is well known for its unique student life and vibrant atmosphere. It is well-known for its social clubs which are referred to as ‘the nations’ and has been voted the best university in Sweden. Today students make up almost half of the population in the city of Lund.

University of Illinois

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious campus in the University of Illinois system. As a result, it is constantly present in the Top 10 public universities in the USA, with notable recognition in Engineering, Sports Science and Environmental Sciences. Furthermore, UIUC offers over 150 programmes of study. There are over 42,000 students at UIUC, of which approximately 12.5% are international students. The UIUC campus has 272 major buildings on nearly 1,500 acres.
