Foundation year programmes

The Northern Consortium (NCUK) International Foundation Year
The University of Leeds welcomes applications from students on the NCUK International Foundation Year programme. For all our single honours degree programmes (Mathematics, Mathematics with Finance, Actuarial Mathematics, Mathematics and Statistics and Mathematical Studies) and entry in September 2017, our offer will be:

  • AAB including A in Mathematics, or AAC including AA in Mathematics and Further Mathematics
  • PLUS C in English for Academic Purposes, with no less than D in all components (or another qualification satisfying the University's English Language requirements).

Note that applicants taking Further Mathematics receive both the AAB and AAC offers, and need to achieve only one of them.

Entry requirements for Joint Honours degrees parented by the School of Mathematics will typically be AAB including A in Mathematics (but we may also require appropriate second subjects) and at least C in English for Academic Purposes, with no less than D in all components (Joint Honours combinations with Economics, Management and Music all require a B in English for Academic Purposes, with no less than C in all components ).

For entry in September 2017, NCUK students applying for a single honours mathematics degree (G100, G101, G150, GG13, GG1H, G1N3 or NG31) will be automatically awarded an Excellence in Mathematics scholarship worth £3,000 (for one year only as a fees reduction) provided they make Leeds their firm choice, they achieve their offer, and they obtain either A* in Further Mathematics or A*AA including A* in Mathematics. (Please note that this applies to students who pay fees at the international rate, only).

University of Leeds International Foundation Year
We welcome applications from students who are studying on the University of Leeds International Foundation Year (IFY). We are happy to consider enquiries on an individual basis. Typically we require high achievement in mathematics, but are more flexible with other subjects studied. For more information please contact us if you expect to pass the International Foundation Year with grades ABB with A (70%) in each of the four Mathematics modules.

Interdisciplinary Science Foundation Year
The university's one year Interdisciplinary Science foundation course offers intensive and supportive preparation for a number of different degree programmes. On successful completion of the foundation year students will join a specific degree programme. Priority is given to applicants who meet specific widening participation criteria.

Other Foundation Year Programmes
Unfortunately many foundation year courses do not cover enough mathematics to provide suitable preparation for our degree schemes. However, if you are taking a foundation year course with a very high level of mathematical content, then we may be able to make an offer.

Please email the Admissions Tutor to enquire.
